The best sports documentaries are rarely about the sport themselves. The Iran Job is one of those moving documentaries that the sport takes a back seat to realities of the area it takes place. A look into a veiled country whose regime has masked the wonderful Iranian people. Kevin Sheppard’s story of his time in Iran is moving, uplifting and at times mind-boggling. I was able to chat with the Director Till Schauder & Star Kevin Sheppard about this tremendous experience of a life time.
Documentary filmmakers Cynthia and Allen Mondell have been a staple of the Dallas VideoFest’s 25 years and their moving work has captivated folks across the globe. Along with Bart Weiss, the couple took part in a roundtable discussion of their work, their connection to DVF and much more. Click thru for some audio clips of my favorite moments and for the full video interview at the bottom of the story.
The title of this post is more for shock value, but sadly this gripping documentary showcases how its not far off the reality. Forks over Knives isn’t your typical food documentary that tries to scare you with scenes of animals being slaughtered. In fact the only open bodies we see are humans who’ve been in surgery with world class surgeons. This documentary does something different, something unique, and thus something groundbreaking. A life altering film.

Jerry Jeff Walker, outlaw country troubadour, is the subject of director Patrick Tourville’s documentary, OK Buckaroos. Not only was a packed house treated to an in-depth look into the life of one of music’s most innovative artists, but we were also privileged to see the man perform live.

Critically acclaimed Director Jeremy Konner has made us rethink history with his hysterical series Drunk History that he created with Derek Waters. He’s also helped showcase the real side of Tenacious D and even recently has given us the newest look of the band She and Him. Overall this bold funny man is reinventing the way we look at the world around us. Jeremy was kind enough to have a nice long chat about his career and I hope you enjoy the candid look inside.
